Born in 1999 in Athens, Greece. Aimilios is living and working between London and Athens. Drawing from his Greek heritage and the cultural interplay between East and West, his work explores mythology, history, and identity through intricate repetitive details, illusionistic painted frames, hand-sewn gemstones and silk embroidery turning each of his paintings into both an image and artefact.
Early mentorship with a Pixar and Disney visual artist introduced him to the power of storytelling through imagery, shaping his approach to composition and narrative. He earned a BA from NABA: Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti on scholarship before completing his MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London, in 2023.
Shortly after, he debuted his first solo exhibition, exploring the intersection of art and experience and expanding the ways in which art is perceived and engaged with. His work has since been exhibited globally in major galleries, museums, hotels, and art fairs such as the San Fransisco art fair, Art’otel London, Xima gallery and Ilias Lalaounis Jewellery museum.
My stories are being told within paint, gems and silk. Through vivid hues, fluid forms, and the haunting presence of eyes and distorted figures I create works that explore the duality of human experience; the tension and harmony between tenderness and turmoil. These elements are not simply aesthetic choices but symbolic tools that invite emotional recognition and deeper psychological engagement. Their piercing eyes and refined details scattered like echoes of an unbound consciousness, beckon the viewer into deeper introspection offering a safe space of escapism allowing them to be free and go back to a simpler times of childhood innocence.
Heavily influenced by history and mythology I call upon times where art was at its peak of innovation and craftsmanship, when the elegant frescos were painted at the palace of Knossos and joyful jewels ignited sparks into the hearts of Europe’s royal court. When the required time and space was given to the artisans to create miracles bound to win over people's imagination and withstand the harsh passage of time. In a culture consumed by fragmentation and superficiality, my work seeks to restore attention to depth, meaning, originality, and authenticity, becoming a ray of hope during harsh times and a reminder of the creative inner child—not as a regression into immaturity, but as a path toward wholeness.
A signature aspect of my practice is the illusion of a frame painted directly onto the canvas, dividing the work into distinct zones: one symbolising the body and external world, the other the interior- emotions, memories and spirit transforming the work into a conversation between the earthly and the divine. Embellished with hand-embroidered semi precious stones I imbue them into my work as modern amulets that draw from ancestral histories, referencing my family’s background in silk trading and my mother’s craftsmanship. This layering of time, material, and meaning turns each painting into both image and artefact, something precious to attach your hopes upon and ultimately achieve spiritual enlightenment.
